There was a mild trepidation among us. Mimi worked hard to get the word out and worked hard to get the website up and running. People doubted this was going to be anything but a few people coming to make a noise. Well…they were wrong!!!
There was room for only 150 seats and once they were taken, people stood in the room…and they stood in the halls and they stood outside. In all it looked to be, according to one observer, about double that amount and others said it was closer to 400. Sooner or later we’ll come up with the right number but right now, we were happy to see as many people as we did.
In attendance were Assemblyman Pete Lopez and State Senator James Seward and Debbie Busch, a Republican (who also appears on the Conservative and Independence parties' lines.)
People who know Pete Lopez know he champions the causes for the people. Whether helping the American Legion and other veterans or an individual with a problem, Pete is always ready to help if he can.
The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. In that room, the United States was no longer the apologetic, down trodden, pathetic beaten country the current “progressive” regime in Washington makes us out to be. We were “One Nation Under God” again and people were proud to be Americans and showed it.
What we thought was only going to be an organizational meeting turned out to be the first meeting of substance and people wanted to speak. There were some pretty tense moments but all in all, people respected the speakers. Except for some individuals passing out “John Birch Society” material, which was very inappropriate and against our policies, the meeting was an unequivocal success and the Tea Party has a place in Schoharie County.
We promise to give the members a “Voice For Your Vote”. A voting block of 300-500 people in Schoharie County can change a local election result. Mobilizing our members to endorse and campaign on behalf of a candidate or get signatures can also change results. It will be reserved for individuals who will follow our principles and doctrine. It’s important to note that we will listen to any candidate willing to put their views before the members
