Salinas Police Officers conducted a vehicle check of a suspicious Honda in the parking lot of Natividad Creek Park. They contacted the person in the driver's seat identified as Faustino Matias (23). When Matias rolled the window down, a very heavy cloud of marijuana smoke bellowed from inside the car. Also inside the car was Claudia Campos (22) and their 1-year-old daughter. The couple were suspected of 'hot-boxing” the car with the infant in the backseat. EMS responded to check on the welfare of the child and after some initial difficulty waking the child, it was determined that the child should be transported to the hospital as a precaution. The child was placed with CPS after examination, and both parents were arrested and transported to Monterey County Jail for felony child endangerment and other charges.
