Mckenna Springs (Wildfire)

McKenna Springs fire now 100% contained, as of June 24, 2012 at 08:30 pm. Firefighters are planning to continue to improve and strengthen fire lines along the perimeter and continue mop up efforts. The McKenna Springs Fire was started by lightning on the evening on Friday June 22, 2012. The fire is approximately 6 miles southwest of Jewel Cave National Park. It is approximately 18 acres. It is burning on Forest Service land in Hell Canyon and is burning in the old Rodger Shack Fire burn scar. The Rodger Shack Fire burned in 2001. Currently the fire is being managed by Black Hills National Forest. A Type 3 Incident Command Team lead by Incident Commander Todd Hoover took control of the fire on the evening of Saturday June 23, 2012. Three handcrews, one type four engine, three type six engines, are on scene. As progress continues more firefighting resources will be demobed to other incidences or back to their home units.
